Born and raised in Weirton, West Virginia Dr. Charles Capito attended West Virginia University and Medical Center whereupon he graduated Magna Cum Laude and Phi Beta Kappa. He then completed his residence training in orthopedic surgery at the Johns Hopkins affiliated program in Baltimore, Maryland. During his residency, he worked with the physicians and athletes of the Baltimore Colts and Orioles and helped in the development of the largest Sports Medicine Clinic in Maryland.
He then went on to fellowship training in sports medicine with six months at the North Sydney Sports Medicine Institute in Australia and six months at the University of Virginia. In these programs he developed expertise in sports medicine treating high school, college, as well as professional athletes. He also researched and co-authored several articles on Anterior Cruciate Ligament injuries in the American Journal of Sports Medicine, as well as lecturing on arthroscopic techniques for shoulder injuries at Boston University, Johns Hopkins, University of Virginia and the University of Pittsburgh.
Fellowships were also obtained in Total Joint Replacement with six months at Harvard and six months at the University of Pittsburgh where he co-authored a chapter in a book on joint reconstruction.
After his fellowship training, Dr. Charles Capito spent extra time studying with world-renowned shoulder and knee surgeons in London, Ontario, and Rochester, New York. He then spent time working with the doctors and players of the Pittsburgh Steelers.
